It's Cinco de Mayo.
To most Americans, this means another excuse to drink Mexican beer and margaritas.
Cinco de Mayo is a date of great importance for the Mexican and Chicano communities. It marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. The day has come to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. Celebrating Cinco de Mayo has become increasingly popular as the holiday is a celebration of Mexican culture, of food, music, beverage and customs unique to Mexico.

You think? The lawyer for the Austrian man who allegedly imprisoned his daughter for 24 years and fathered seven children with her has said he is preparing an insanity defense.
Of course, locking your daughter in a basement for 24 years and fathering her children, etc etc, is not the sane thing that everyone does. Gotta wonder how they'll prove that he knew exactly what he was doing and give him what he deserves.

Cyclone hits YANGON, Myanmar
- Almost 4,000 people were killed and nearly 3,000 others are unaccounted for in a single town after a devastating cyclone in Myanmar, a state radio station said Monday.

Idaho team readies artificial beak for wounded bald eagle .
She has been named Beauty, though this eagle is anything but. Part of Beauty's beak was shot off several years ago, leaving her with a stump that is useless for hunting food. A team of volunteers is working to attach an artificial beak to the disfigured bird, in an effort to keep her alive.

Beauty was taken in 2007 to Cantwell's Birds of Prey Northwest ranch in Idaho after permits were obtained from the federal government.

Beauty has the potential to breed or be a foster mother for orphaned eagles. Cantwell has other plans for Beauty as well.

Shooting a bald eagle, though they are no longer on the endangered species list, remains a violation of federal law.

Beauty, a rescued Alaskan bald eagle, sits in her pen at a raptor recovery center near St. Marie's, Idaho, Wednesday, April 23, 2008. A surgery in May 2008 will provide Beauty with a new artificial beak, to replace the one damaged by a gunshot wound. (AP Photo/Young Kwak)
