According to a new survey, the most popular book in the United States is the Bible.
In a Harris Poll of nearly 2,513 adults, the second most popular book differed among the sexes. Men chose J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and women selected Margaret Mitchell's "Gone With the Wind" as their second-favorite book, according to the online poll.
In York, PA, a 2-year-old girl died after being beaten with a video game controller by her mother's boyfriend, police said Tuesday. The mother overheard the beating Sunday but did nothing until she realized the girl was unconscious, police said.
More is coming out from the sect tragedy in ELDORADO, Texas. The scared girl who outed the group, already a mother at 16, whispered into a cell phone: she wanted out. She'd been forced to spiritually marry a man more than three times her age, becoming his seventh wife. Her husband sexually assaulted her, and when he was angry, he would beat her while other women held her infant, she told a family violence shelter in a series of secret calls that triggered an investigation of the polygamist sect here.
Enough is enough- or it was for one man who has had it with cell phone use in public. A retired police officer who screamed obscenities at a train passenger who was talking on a cell phone and who hit the hand of another passenger who intervened was acquitted Tuesday of misdemeanor charges stemming from the confrontation. He stated during trial that he was aggressive and overbearing when he approached Long Island Rail Road commuters he considered rude for talking too loudly on cell phones and for other behavior.
